Garlic is not only a common flavoring, but also incredibly healthy food. It helps to cope with various ailments, and is especially good for respiratory diseases.

In such cases, the plant is most often used to prepare a solution for inhalation - healing respiratory procedures. How useful it is, and in what cases it will harm, who should not use it - read on. And you will also learn how to do the procedures correctly, and what else can be added to garlic.

Is it helpful?

Inhalation with garlic stimulates recovery from the following conditions:

  • ARVI, ARI (if the temperature is normal).
  • Sinusitis, rhinitis, frontal sinusitis, mild sinusitis (read about the treatment of rhinitis with drops and inhalations with garlic in this article).
  • Complications from respiratory infections and influenza.
  • Various types of cough (you can find more recipes for cough treatment with garlic here).
  • Bronchopulmonary diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, whooping cough (inhalation relieves the condition during periods of exacerbation).

On a note. Garlic inhalation is an excellent prophylactic agent.

They can be used during periods of increased seasonal activity of infections and at moments of malaise at the onset of the disease to prevent it. Also, this procedure is able to strengthen a person's immunity when he is most weakened - in the autumn and winter months.

The therapeutic effect is that the essential oils contained in garlic, allicin, phytoncides and bioflavonoids have a beneficial effect on the organs of the respiratory system, destroy pathogenic bacteria, preventing their reproduction, and help to strengthen the immune system.

Harm

  • If the concentration of garlic in the inhalation solution is too high or if this procedure is performed too often, you can get a slight burn of the respiratory tract.
  • For some diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, too hot a solution may be ineffective, since garlic will kill harmful microorganisms, and an abundance of steam will promote their reproduction. But this phenomenon is extremely rare.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy, especially its last period (garlic can increase uterine activity).
  • Increased tendency to allergic reactions.
  • Individual intolerance to garlic.

Important! Any inhalation using hot steam is contraindicated in the presence of a high temperature.

How to do it right?

Inhalation during inhalation is done through the nose, and exhalation through the mouth. In some cases, you can inhale with your mouth. The best effect of inhalation is achieved when the procedure is carried out before bedtime.

If breathing procedures are carried out for several days in a row or more than once a day, the solution for them must be prepared fresh each time. A ready-made inhalation liquid, after standing for more than two hours, not only loses some useful properties, but can also become harmful as a result of a chemical reaction with the release of decay products.

What to combine garlic inhalations with?

With onion

Ingredients:

  • Water - 1-1.2 liters.
  • Onions - half a large head.
  • Garlic - 4 cloves.

Preparation:

  1. Boil the water.
  2. Grate the onion and garlic on a fine grater, wrap in cheesecloth, squeeze into prepared hot water, then put the squeezed gauze bag there.

Procedure: bend over the container with the solution, close your eyes tightly, inhale the steam through your nose and mouth. In order to keep the inhalation solution hot for a longer time and not to let out steam wasted, it is additionally recommended to cover your head and container with a thick cloth (for example, a towel).

It takes about 15 minutes to inhale the vapors - until the liquid cools. After the procedure, you should go to bed and cover yourself with a warm blanket.

Note! Avoid getting garlic on the mucous membranes, especially when they are inflamed - this can cause chemical burns and irritation, accompanied by pain.

  3. Let stand under the lid for another 5 minutes.
  4. Warm up the solution.
  5. Inhale steam for 15 minutes.

It is recommended to inhale 2-3 times a day.

With coniferous extract

Ingredients:

  • Water - 1-1.2 liters.
  • Coniferous extract - 2-3 teaspoons liquid or 20 dry (in briquettes).
  • Garlic - 3-4 cloves.

  1. To boil water.
  2. If the coniferous extract is in liquid form, pour the required amount into hot water, if in dry form, pour boiling water and let it brew for 5 minutes.

With menthol

Ingredients:

  • Water - 1-1.5 liters.
  • Garlic - 4-5 cloves.
  • Liquid menthol - 15-20 drops.

The liquid menthol in the recipe can be replaced with mint leaves - dry or fresh. In a crushed form, they will need three tablespoons. This option works well for children.

Preparation:

  1. Boil the water.
  2. Add the specified amount of menthol to boiling water.
  3. Chop the garlic on a fine grater, wrap it in two layers of gauze, squeeze it into menthol water, put the gauze with the rest of the product in the same place.

Breathe the resulting solution for 15 minutes. It is advisable to repeat the procedure twice a day.

With eucalyptus

Ingredients:

  • Water - 1 liter.
  • Garlic - 5-6 cloves.
  • Eucalyptus in the form of an essential oil - 7-10 drops, in the form of an alcohol tincture - 2 teaspoons.

Preparation:

  1. Add eucalyptus oil or tincture and finely chopped garlic to hot boiled water.
  2. Leave to infuse under the lid for 5-7 minutes.

To carry out inhalation according to the general scheme, 2-3 times a day for treatment and once a day for the prevention of diseases.

Important! If a child or an adult with a disease such as bronchial asthma passes through the treatment process, the concentration of garlic in the solution must be reduced - this will help to avoid negative consequences, for example, burning sensation in the respiratory tract or difficulty breathing.

You can also inhale only using garlic - for this you need to add 7-8 cloves of garlic, crushed together with the husk, into boiling water, simmer over minimal heat for 4-5 minutes, and then apply according to the general scheme.

Garlic hulls can be added to the inhalation liquid along with garlic - it contains many useful substances that will have a positive effect on the respiratory system.

In addition to inhalation for colds, garlic has many other useful uses: for pressure, parasites, for cleaning blood vessels, liver and gallbladder, treating joints, getting rid of toenail fungus, prostatitis, herpes, acne and psoriasis, relieving toothache, removing warts.

Although garlic is not recognized by official medicine as a medicine, it does not cease to be a budgetary and, most importantly, a natural method of healing for many people. The competent use of this plant for healing both internally and externally has proven its effectiveness and gained well-deserved popularity.
